Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin: Smile (Day 20)
I think that I knew more about the coronaviruses, COVID-19, mask-wearing, hand washing and how to make your own hand sanitiser from the jokes and videos that were sent on social media platforms prior to the national SA lockdown. One thing we do well as South Africans is to make a joke about absolutely anything.
My personal feeling right now: “This is no longer funny.”
These are devastating and extremely uncertain times.
Professionally, personally and financially everything will change. Our world has already changed so much.
I do believe that, even though the situation looks very bleak, at the moment, we have tenacity and grit to take everything that is thrown at us and turn it into a positive. We can survive much more then we believe. We will get through this smiling at these unforeseen challenges, grabbing at opportunities, seeing life in a new light. This international disaster is creating a whole new world and hopefully, a whole new life for us to live better and with renewed purpose and drive.
We will build our businesses to be resilient, stronger and with foolproof backup plans. Our relationships will be stronger with our children and spouses and family. Our values and that this is important to us will change. We will see the world from a different perspective. This is a time for true introspection and new resolve.
In her book, Loving what is, Byron Katie spoke about her own life and how she realised that she should get up, put on her sneakers (I would say takkies) and do what needs to be done. The reason being that it is not that easy to get shoes that have been lased up off and slip back into bed. Let’s all make the commitment to get up each morning, put on our takkies (and lipstick) and like the Proverbs 31 woman, we will smile at the future because we know this adversity will pass and we will all have bright future filled with new and exciting opportunities.
