Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin: Exercise (Day 19)
I am sure you have all seen the online fitness programs, before the worldwide pandemic. It seems that there are 1000 time more “free-for-the-first-month” programs being advertised on every social media and online platform. (Or maybe I am just feeling guilty. Yes I am talking to myself as well) All of these programs promote fantastic promises of ultimate body fitness and coming out of lockdown smaller, tighter and fitter. Regardless of all the promises, we all know that exercise is good for us. Our bodies are made to move. They are not made to live on a couch, in front of three screens while being fed by a constant stream of coffee, soft drinks and microwave popcorn.
Exercise is good for your skin as well. Just remember how your legs tingle and itch when you first start exercising again? That is a sign of increased peripheral blood flow. And it is not just happening in your legs but all over your body. This increased blood flow increases nutritional support of your skin and also the removal of impurities and waste products from metabolism and cell regeneration. Increase blood flow will result in healthier skin that responds well to treatments and products. That is apart from the fact that the blood flow literally makes your skin glow – No, after your shower, I am not talking about the red sweaty, face.
One thing that you need to consider when exercising is your anti-oxidant support. The biggest source of free radical production is your metabolism. When you are increasing your metabolism through exercise you need to increase your intake and application of anti-oxidant to the skin. If you are exercising outside in the sun and where there is increased pollution this becomes even more important as you are loading your skin with even more free radicals.
Also very important to consider when you are outside, whether exercising or not, is to increase you sunscreen SPF to at least 50. SPF 30 is best for indoor and general, in and out of buildings during a working day, protection. Also to remember to re-apply your sunscreen if you are sweating or when coming out of the water, when you are swimming for instance. The general rule for best protection is to re-apply your sunscreen every two to three hours when you are exposed to the full sun. Sun avoidance between 12h00 and 15h00, and wearing protective clothing also add to the overall protection of your skin.
Just a reminder: Sun protection is very important to prevent ageing and worsening of hyper-pigmentation.
However, the biggest reason Lamelle promote sun protection is to lower your risk of skin cancer.
Lamelle’s Nourish range is the range that is ultimately focused on potent anti-oxidant support and the correction of indirect DNA damage (the damage caused by activation of free radicals through sun exposure)
