Wrinkles? Chemical Peel Is The Answer

Chemical Peel.jpg

Is it just us, or do deep wrinkles seem to show up on your face more in winter? Especially around your mouth, cheeks and forehead. It almost feels as if winter exaggerates wrinkles – or even causes them.

Enough. We say it’s time to turn the tables on this trend by asking: How can you use winter to get rid of deep wrinkles instead?

First, let’s look at what’s happening in your skin:

What causes deep wrinkles in winter

So, firstly, it’s not technically correct to think that winter itself causes wrinkles. Yes, our bodies slow down a bit over the colder months, especially blood flow as fine capillaries in the skin contract a little. And then the cold and dry air, combined with our aircons and hot showers, do dry out your skin, which can over a period of time make fine lines appear deeper.

But it’s not winter itself that’s doing this. It's more a combination of the climate and our behaviour exaggerating what’s already happening inside your skin. Those deep wrinkles are still a result of internal processes – most notably, the breakdown of collagen.

And that’s actually good news. Because it means that you can choose to do something about it.

Why this winter is a good time to treat wrinkles

We all want a little relief and pampering in winter. Hence the thicker creams and richer hydration products. But there’s merit in using this time to really recharge and rejuvenate your skin with a deeper treatment.

Since we tend to spend more time indoors in winter and avoid the sun more – not to mention the current need to maintain social distancing – you can more easily manage a little extra social downtime. Where summer treatments need to be really fast so you can maintain your social commitments. There might be fewer of those right now, so it’s a good time for a deep wrinkle treatment.

The best treatments for deep wrinkles in winter

As important as exfoliation is for rejuvenating skin, with deep wrinkles you need to really activate the body’s own restorative processes. That means slightly more in-depth resurfacing or even a collagen-induction treatment. These are the deep wrinkle treatments ideal for now in winter:

Skin peels

Lamelle Retistore and Restistore Plus Peels

To effectively treat deep wrinkles, you want to completely change the structure of the epidermis. And, of course, there are far more invasive ways to achieve this, but those can be quite painful, requiring a lot of healing. Which is why Lamelle created Retistore and Retistore Plus Peels – a proprietary retinol-based peel that achieves full epidermal resurfacing almost from the first treatment.

Retistore breaks up dead proteins, allowing the dead skin cells to detach without injuring any healthy cells further. And it rapidly enhances basal cell division and normalisation of any abnormal cell activity, also inhibiting melanocyte activity and stimulating epidermal cells to produce more hyaluronic acid.

It’s one of Lamelle’s more active peels, requiring a little more social downtime than usual.

What it feels like:

Unlike most peels, you won’t actually feel much tingling with Retistore.

What to expect:

A preparation solution is applied for 5 minutes in the treatment room. Then the actual solution is applied and you keep it on for 6–12 hours. So you actually go home with strict home-care instructions and products, of course, and you'll remove the product yourself at home. Your skin will be sensitive, with fine flaking for a few days. But, by day 5, it’ll be plump, fresh and glowing
