Meet Restorative Balm – our bandage in a bottle

Peels, lasers, skin-needling and even aggressive microdermabrasion – these are just a few of the aesthetic treatments that “injure” our skin, but in a way that’s beneficial. As they all stimulate a controlled healing response, they encourage the creation of fresh new collagen and healthier skin cells. Depending on which treatment you opt for, the results can range from firmer-looking skin to an improvement in wrinkle and pigmentation. Still, it’s the healing part that’s vital. This is why we’ve developed NEW Restorative Balm (R270 for 50ml), our “bandage in a bottle”.

Inspired by silicone wound dressings, Restorative Balm is a blend of synthetic emollients, petrolatum and medical-grade silicone gel polymers that create a breathable liquid membrane to protect your skin while it heals. Being “breathable” is important because if your injury was completely covered, it could lead to wound maceration. This is when your skin starts to degrade from being too wet, something that can hamper healing and lead to inflammation and infection.

There’s another reason why Restorative Balm – our new breathable barrier – is the way to go. It allows for hyaluronic acid production at the surface of your wound. This is essential for the creation of new, healthy fibroblasts and keratinocytes to grow across the surface of your skin while your epidermal-dermal matrix knits itself back together again. Getting this moisture balance just right is vital because if your wound is too dry or too wet, the reparative process won’t be able to perform at its best.

Last but not least, because Restorative Balm is anhydrous (water-free), it has practically no pH, so you can apply it without bracing yourself for a sting, burn or irritation!

Restorative balm to the rescue

Ready to look and feel your best this summer? We’ve round up just a few treatments involving a healing response that can be optimised thanks to Restorative Balm.

Lamelle Retistore Plus Peel

Those with a lighter skin type and concerned with a loss of firmness, fine lines, and wrinkles could stand to benefit from a series of our Retistore Plus peels. Thanks to exfoliating, collagen-stimulating retinol, it can fully restructure your epidermis, but with almost no discomfort and very little downtime. In fact, you’ll get to walk out with hydrated glowing skin! Between days 2 and 5, however, you might experience some flaking or possibly have a retinoid-like response, meaning a hot sensation <OR mild burning> and slight discomfort. But this is where Restorative Balm can come in.

Lamelle Augmented Beta Peel

Dealing with resistant pigmentation or acne scarring? Have those fine lines evolved into wrinkles? If so, you’ll require a more intensive solution, something like our Augmented Beta Peel. It combines the power of three of our favourite exfoliators – salicylic acid, TCA and retinol – all in one. You’ll get to enjoy dramatic results, but this goes hand in hand with wanting to hide away for a few days. It’s during this period that Restorative Balm becomes your new bestie. You’ll then experience active peeling for anything from 7 to 10 days and a secondary milder flake after that. Again, it’s Restorative Balm to the rescue!

Ablative fraxelated laser treatments

While non-ablative lasers rejuvenate your skin by heating it, an ablative fraxelated one removes the uppermost layers as well as controlled sections that can go as deep as your dermis. As we’ve explained, these types of “wounds” are a good thing because they stimulate that wonderful healing response. Naturally, the type of laser you use and how deep your aesthetic doctor goes will dictate the downtime. Either way, your skin is going to require a little TLC and Restorative Balm is a brilliant way to nurse it.

Permanent make-up

Thinking about microblading? Wanting to invest in eyeliner that’s never going to smudge? Many salons that offer permanent make-up and even tattoo parlours are getting great results with post-treatment involving Restorative Balm. It can help speed up the healing process and the colour won’t alter as much prior to revealing it’s final shade. In fact, any procedure the results in the exposure of the lower layer or the skin followed by weeping and scabbing, be it a plasma pen treatment or aggressive microdermabrasion, can be optimised with Restorative Balm.

The bottom line

Ultimately, treatments that “damage” your skin in a controlled way can help you rejuvenate while tackling a host of concerns that range from wrinkles to pigmentation. Still, the healing part is what counts, so be sure to get it right with Restorative Balm. It’s the breathable “no sting” bandage that creates the perfect environment for optimal healing. This way, whether you’re having a peel or hitting up a laser, you’ll always get more bang for your buck.
