Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin: Time Out From Time Out (Day 13)
Time isn't going to slow down in anyone's favour, because time is not created or selected to each person differently. We are all given the same 24 hours in a day, so it's ultimately up to us to choose how we balance that time.
In a perfect world . . .
You are routined with the correct products for your skin
You are getting enough quality sleep
You are eating a healthy diet
Wearing sunscreen daily
This is where quiet time (may it be prayer, meditation or self-reflecting) will add the strength to get through feeling happier.
I have to report that even though we are in isolation and have fewer distractions and more time, I am still spending too much time on social media and looking at a screen.
A few mins a day for a nice break may be a tall ask as I have many colleagues that would giggle at the thought. “When can make time?”
My hat goes out to the moms with kids, who not only have to work but have to keep the household in order. Trust me, I have been there, but sure being lockdown adds to the challenge. I just don't know how you are getting it all done. Work and meals and schooling at home and soccer and tests and dogs and cats and rabbits and husbands…………Where do you find time for yourself?
Even though my children are older and can make their own sandwiches, I am still experiencing a very full busy day and admittedly, I may need a time out too.
So to help us, I did some research. I read that even just 5 minutes a day will make a difference.
Switch off the 2-year-old tantrums, 5-year-old screams to his little brother, the Digi-noise, the screens and WhatsApp messages. Make sure your family is safe and get 5 mins of calm and relaxation.
You can start right now!
The effects of this quiet time can be astounding:
Calms and relaxes breathing
Lowers your blood pressure
Relaxes your muscles – relaxing facial muscles can help those pesky wrinkles
Reduces negative emotions and thoughts
Slows aging
Improves self-confidence and mood – give you the “You can do this” attitude.
Helps you to make healthier choices
Helps you to unload negative emotions
Relieves anxiety
Helps to improve sleep quality
Rushing, stressing and overthinking can leave us feeling emotional, physically, spiritually and mentally drained. For the sake of your family take time to nourish your soul. Honour yourself with some "me" time, pace yourself and keep things simple. You will feel stronger for tomorrow.
Start with 5, well why not make it 10 minutes a day to recoup. You and your family deserve it!
This might be your new skill you could take into life-after-lockdown!
