Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin: Exfoliate (Day 12)
I know you have been using that grapefruit-flavored nut hut particle scrub since your teenage years. It makes your skin glow and feels as if it has worked.
Why are scrubs now no longer good enough?
When looking at the skin through a magnifying glass or microscope after performing a scrub the skin shows scratch and tear like injuries.
These are injuries to the skin surface
The effect is not uniform in its result –more injury where you focus your scrubbing activity
The injury needs time to heal – increase the time between in-salon treatments
If the skin is treated this might lead to complications that need to be managed
They sensitise your skin to products and treatments
Lighter scrubs and exfoliators do not activate the live skin cells – this can lead to fragile thin skin.
At Lamelle we do prefer using peels that are done in a salon. It means that we can give you the best “exfoliation” chosen for you’re the skin challenges that you need to treat. We do however know that it is not always possible to have a treatment in-salon – for example in lockdown.
So what if you really need to exfoliate at home? What should you use it?
We prefer that you use an ingredient that has been proven to be safe and yet very effective in exfoliating and improving the texture and health of your skin. This ingredient, cathepsin D, had been formulated into two home care exfoliators – Cathepzyme 1 and 2.
The product is easy to use with a three-minute application and rinse off. The cathepsin D will only exfoliate the corneum – dry dead skin cells. Still, it showed a 50% improvement in hydration and skin cell replacement rate. The product also showed an increase in water binding and skin thickness.
Definitely safe and effective.
