Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin: Breath (Day 8)

Day 8 Breath.jpg

Deep breathes are like little love notes to your body and skin.

Seven unusual, surreal, and frustrating days have gone past.  Are you still breathing?

I am talking about stopping and sitting on your own to relax your mind and soul. Have you?

In times like this, we need to stop for a few minutes to help make our minds clearer and re-energize. This can be accomplished by practicing simple breathing meditation.

A recent article from the BBC/Worklife informed us that "scientific research has shown that while quick, shallow and unfocused breathing may contribute to a host of problems, including anxiety, depression and high blood pressure, cultivating greater control over our lungs can bring many benefits to our mental and physical health. Intriguingly, scientists are finding that a particular frequency of breath – at around six exhalations a minute – can be especially restorative, triggering a “relaxation response” in the brain and body."

So let’s practice this today and any time you need to re-energize.

  • Choose a quiet place and sit in a comfortable position. You can sit in the traditional cross-legged posture or in any other position that is comfortable. If we wish, you can sit in a chair. The most important thing is to keep our back straight to prevent our minds from becoming sluggish or sleepy.

  • Take a slow and deep breath. One of those that makes you feel like your stomach has filled up with air…….. and hold it. OK not too long, we don’t want you fainting.

  • Now breathe out slowly. Through your nose.

  • You have got this!

  • Repeat: two or three times.

  • Relax your shoulders.

  • Now just BE for a moment.

When you breathe in and out deeply you energize cells which also has many benefits for your skin.

Breathe.
