Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin: Wear Sunscreen Everyday (Day 2)
To prevent aging in our sunny South African environment, sun protection is critical. Just do it…….Daily. Everyday!
The reason why we look much older – generally – than our counterparts, in less sunny environments, should be obvious. Maybe it has something to do with the sun?
Most of us believe that we only need to wear sunscreen when we are tanning on a beach holiday or involved in activities where we are in the sun for a long period. The truth is that we are exposed to sunlight indoors, in our cars and also through windows and doors.
Yes, some frequencies are blocked out by glass. UVA, visible light and infrared – the frequencies that have the most aging effects on your skin - pass right through the glass and, of course, open doors.
The best protection is sunscreen and anti-oxidants.
So Question?
The sun activates the production of Vitamin D3 and we have all heard this vitamin is essential in fighting the covid19 virus. Should we not go outside and get as much as sun and Vitamin D3 we can possibly can?
Data has shown that you only need to spend 15 minutes, three times a week with your face, neck, décolleté (chest in men) and forearms exposed, to produce enough Vitamin D3 to keep you healthy. You probably will need a little more to fight viral disease.
I, however, have no idea how much time you would need to spend in the sun to adequately arm yourself. I am very sure, however, that you do not need to and should not burn in the sun. Burning inhibits your immunity and we do not want that at all costs.
So spend a little time in the sun early in the morning on the sunny SA days. Then wash your face; moisturize and apply your sunscreen. SPF 30 is adequate if you are homebound but if you are planning a day at the poolside, please increase it to SPF 50.
Karen's key tip: Ran out of sunscreen? Zinc containing baby bum cream ; if you have at home; can also protect your skin. It is not the best sun care protection, but it in an emergency situation, it may protect and keep applying repetitively.
Lamelle's sun protection range:
Luminesce Brighter Defense is an SPF 30 with pigment inhibiting ingredients and anti-oxidants. Love this mat feeling sunscreen!
Nourish Daily Defense is also an SPF 30 with Pycnogenol which is an amazing super anti-oxidant. Powerful antioxidant protection!
Helase 50+ . . . oh boy! This SPF 50 protects the skin from the effects of all the frequencies of sunlight, while also finding and fixing recent DNA damage in the skin that was caused by sun exposure.
When you don't protect your skin, you are getting more than a tan!
Just Protect yourself.
