Lamelle’s Helase 50+ sunscreen is state-of-the-art – and here’s why

Most sunscreen can protect you from the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays, but these aren’t the only types of light that damage your skin. Happily, Helase 50+ and Helase Urban Defence 30 can protect you from all forms of photo aging and even correct DNA damage thanks to a unique combination of cutting-edge ingredients. Ready to take a closer look?

TRPV1 inhibition

We all know that the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can damage our skin, but as it turns out, its warmth – also known as infra-red – can also mess with it in multiple ways. Firstly, infra-red A goes deep into the skin where it creates cell-damaging free radicals while infra-red B and C activate your TRPV 1 channels. (TR – what?! Yep, we know it’s one heck of a name, but essentially it’s a receptor that regulates your skin’s temperature.) Once triggered, a chain reaction sees your skin create less pro-collagen (the first step in collagen production) while increasing the production of collagenase, a collagen-destroying enzyme. It also causes inflammation that triggers pigmentation production.

In short, the sun’s heat can speed up the ageing process and make it very difficult to win any battle with hyperpigmentation. But this is where TRPV 1 Inhibition comes in. Included in all Helase products, it has the unique ability to stop the triggers that cause the cascade of damage activated by infra-red frequencies.

AHR inhibition

Yet more “baddie” sun energies you’ll want protection from include early UVB and early UVC rays… and let’s not forget about particulate matter, harmful contaminates suspended in the air and completely invisible to the human eye. All three trigger your skin’s aryl hydrocarbon receptors. (Yes, another mouthful – that’s why we call them AHRs.)

Essentially a “gene switch” in your cells, AHRs can negatively affect your skin’s immune system. This way, your cells don’t recognise and destroy the “wounded” – those that have accumulated DNA damage, something doctors suspect might be linked to cancer. Much like TRPV1, compromised skin immunity also decreases pro-collagen gene, activates collagenase and triggers inflammation.

Clearly, AHRs are bad news for your skin, which is why our Helase products include AHR Inhibition. Again, this is unique to the Helase line and something you won’t find in other sunscreens. (Sure, these conventional SPF products might contain antioxidants that can help mitigate particulate matter, but they still won’t be able to flick the gene switch. Only Helase 50+ can do that.)

Talk about a power couple

Lastly, but not least, all Helase products benefit from two incredibly powerful enzymes – OGG-1 and photolyase. Not only do they have the ability to correct DNA damage known as dimers, they’re also able to findit and this is crucial. Our bodies, when they’re functioning optimally, can recognise DNA damage, which is half the battle won. However, unprotected sun exposure can affect our skin’s immunity, causing it to become “blind” to the damage and allowing it to go unchecked.

Fortunately, our cutting-edge enzymes are “intelligent”, with the unique ability to hunt down the damage on their own, regardless of the state of our skin’s immuno-health at the time. While it sounds incredible, it’s not. It’s just amazing, beautiful science – something that’s helped Lamelle Research Laboratories create the most innovative and effective photoprotection products under the sun – literally.
