Twenty One Days of Healthy Skin – Vitamin C Ascorbic Acid (Day 4)
For as long as I can remember, I have been taking Vitamin C. It is good for you! "Thanks Mom!" But it was only once I entered the skincare industry did I learn how important it is for you and your skin.
Here are some of my learnings:
Without ascorbic acid, the active form of vitamin C, your skin is unable to take fine strands of pro-collagen and bind them into strong “strings” of adult collagen.
Ascorbic acid is also able to stimulate the production cells that make up the second layer of the skin – the dermis.
It activates the production of hyaluronic acid, a molecule that binds water and makes skin plump and hydrated.
It is also able to lower damaging enzymes in your skin. Ascorbic acid is also the most prolific anti-oxidant in your skin.
Ascorbic acid provides plump, healthy, glowing and younger-looking skin - Regardless of how old you are.
Some things we need you to know:
Your human body does not make any form of Vitamin C. You need to eat it, supplement it or apply it to your skin.
Even though your skin is the largest organ, it is also the organ that is fed and watered last when you eat or drink ingredients. So why not provide the supplement where it is needed directly onto the skin? At Lamelle we have two ascorbic acid products and one vitamin C product.
If ascorbic is not actively kept stable it will oxidise and become totally inactive.
We manage this challenge by providing our ascorbic acid in an anhydrous (no water) lotion/cream.
Also due to its activity, Vitamin C might irritate some skins.
Correctives Vita C lipid contains a vitamin C ester. It has the same effects on the skin as ascorbic acid, with very little potential to create irritation.
We generally suggest that you add Vitamin C containing products every day –regardless of your age. Generally in the morning as your skin will be exposed to more free radical during the day then at night. Sun exposure also increases your free radical load putting you into a state of oxidative stress.
Vitamin C can fix everything! Improve your skin with vitamin C and fill your day with more C's of Courage, Confidence, Cheerfulness, and Creativity.
